Project Description:
DRT provides public health, technology, data, communications, and visualization support to enhance the government’s ability to use public health data to address diverse, complex, and emerging problems. This includes designing and developing application and database solutions. In addition, this team develops innovative data capture and analysis techniques to enhance safety research and recommendation efforts across the country.
Job Summary:
The Database Administrator works directly with public health analysts, coordinators, data scientists, and other technologists. The DBA analyses, monitors, and manipulates data for optimal database performance. Accesses public health databases, data structures, and data flows to recommend and perform the import, structuring, and encoding of public health data.
Responsibilities:
ETL Pipeline Design and Development:
- Design, develop, and implement ETL pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), AWS Glue, and other cloud-native services.
- Extract, transform, and load structured and unstructured data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and quality.
- Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
Cloud Data Integration: - Leverage Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and AWS Redshift for data warehousing and analytics.
- Integrate with data sources such as S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Blob Storage, and SQL Databases.
- Implement workflows for real-time and batch processing using services like Azure Stream Analytics, Kinesis, and Kafka.
- Develop and execute complex transformations using tools such as PySpark, Databricks, or EMR.
- Implement business logic and transformations using Python, SQL, or Scala.
- Manage data enrichment and cleansing processes to ensure accurate reporting and analytics.
- Automate ETL workflows using CI/CD tools and cloud-native orchestration services like AWS Step Functions or Azure Logic Apps.
- Monitor pipelines using Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, and third-party tools such as Datadog or Splunk.
- Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline failures and data discrepancies.
- Implement data security measures, including encryption, masking, and access control.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
- Use tools like AWS Lake Formation and Azure Purview for data governance and cataloging.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to understand business requirements.
- Document ETL processes, workflows, and data mappings to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Public Trust with the US federal government
- At least seven years’ experience in database administration roles
- Advanced understanding of relational database design, development, and management
- Familiarity with common API languages
- Knowledge of public health data and related privacy requirements (HIPPA, PII, etc.)
- Proficiency with ETL tools like Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, and Informatica.
- Strong knowledge of cloud data services such as Azure Synapse, AWS Redshift, and Databricks.
- Experience with SQL and programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.
- Familiarity with data integration frameworks, REST APIs, and message queues.
- Knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Presto.
- Recent experience with CDC environment and standards: SDLC, technical architecture, release processes
- Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies
- Knowledge of EDAV techniques using tools like Data Bricks notebooks for data analysis, visualization, and reporting
- AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT or related field
